Programs: Ph.D. (Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Electrical, Mechanical, Civil and Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Design, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Humanities & Social Sciences; Center of Environment, Energy, Nanotechnology) Dual Degree Program (M.Tech + Ph.D.) of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering M.A. in Development Studies M.Tech (Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology) M.Des Eligibility: For Ph.D. in Engineering: i) Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Medical Sciences/Veterinary Sciences/Pharmacy in a relevant area with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.5 or 60% of marks. ii) Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Medical Sciences in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks. iii) Bachelor’s degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0. iv) A candidate having M.Sc. degree with Mathematics as a subject at bachelor’s level is also considered for admission in the Department of Civil Engineering. The candidate should have a minimum of 7.5 CPI or 70% marks in Master’s level with consistent first class at other levels. v) A candidate with M.Sc. in a relevant area is also considered for admission to the Department of Biotechnology. The Candidate should have a minimum of 7.5 CPI or 70% marks in Master’s level. vi) A regular student of IIT Guwahati who is continuing his/her M.Tech studies and having a minimum CPI of 8.0 at the end of second semester may be enrolled in the Ph.D. program of the Department in the beginning of his/her third semester of study. Such students can receive only Ph.D. degree. vii) A student of IIT Guwahati who is continuing his/her BTech studies and having a minimum CPI of 6.5 at the end of sixth semester may be enrolled in the PhD program of the Department in the beginning of his/her seventh semester of study. Such students can receive dual BTech and Ph.D. degree. Both the degrees will be awarded after completion of Ph.D. degree. For Ph.D. in Design: i) Candidates having March/M Des degree or M Tech/ME degree in a relevant area, with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks. ii) Master’s degree in Applied Arts/Ergonomics/Fine Arts/Psychology/Physiology with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks. iii) Bachelor’s degree in Design or Engineering/Technology in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks. iv) Bachelor’s degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0. v) A two-year Post-graduate Diploma in Design (NID/CEPT or equivalent) with first class at Bachelor’s level. vi) BFA (4-year professional program, after 10+2)/GD Art (5-year programme after 10th standard) with one year professional experience, with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks. vii) A regular student of IIT Guwahati who is continuing his/her M. Des studies and having a minimum CPI of 8.0 at the end of second semester may be enrolled in the PhD programme of the Department in the beginning of his/her third semester of study. Such students can receive only PhD degree. viii) A student of IIT Guwahati who is continuing his/her B Des studies and having a minimum CPI of 6.5 at the end of sixth semester may be enrolled in the PhD program of the Department in the beginning of his/her seventh semester of study. Such students can receive dual B Des and PhD Degree. Both the degrees will be awarded after completion of PhD degree. For Ph.D. in Science: i) Master’s degree in Science in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks. ii) Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Design in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks. iii) Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Design from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0. iv) Bachelor’s degree in a related area in Engineering/Technology/Design (from other than IITs) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks. For Ph.D. in Humanities and Social Sciences: i) Master’s degree in Arts/Commerce/Science in a relevant area with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent. ii) Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Design in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks. iii) Bachelor’s degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0. iv) Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Design (from other than IITs) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% marks. For Ph.D. in Centers of Environment, Energy, Nanotechnology: i) Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology/Design/Architecture/Medical Sciences in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks. ii) Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Medical Sciences in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks. iii) Bachelor’s degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0. iv) Master’s degree in Science in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks. v) Master’s degree in Social Sciences, in a relevant area, with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks, is also considered for admission to the Centre for the Environment. For Dual Degree Program (M.Tech + Ph.D.): B.E/BTech in any discipline other than CSE or IT or equivalent, with any one of the following criteria (Please note that this programme is not meant for engineering graduates in computer or information technology related disciplines): i) a CPI of 7.5 or marks of 70% and a valid GATE score in any subject, if the qualifying B E/B Tech degree is not from an IIT ii) a CPI of 8.0 only, if the qualifying B Tech degree is from an IIT iii) a CPI of 7.0 (or more) but less than 8.0, and a valid GATE score in any subject, if the qualifying B Tech degree is from an IIT For M.A. Development Studies: A Bachelor’s (10+2+3) degree (Major/Honours) or equivalent from a recognized University, in any discipline, with a minimum of 50% marks or 5.5 CPI in a 10-point scale (45% marks or 5.0 CPI in a 10-point scale for SC/ST/PD candidates) in major/honours only. OR Candidates not having Major/Honours courses, must have the concerned degree with a minimum 50% aggregate marks or 5.5 CPI in a 10-point scale for General/OBC category candidates and a minimum 45% aggregate marks or 5.0 CPI in a 10-point scale for SC/ST/PD category candidates. For M.Tech: Bachelors degree and valid GATE score card. For M. Des: Minimum CPI of 6.0 or 55% of marks in the qualifying degree/diploma as indicated below: (a) All regular category candidates (except those having BTech/B Des degrees from an IIT with a minimum CPI of 7.0) must possess a valid score of all India Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED). (b) Minimum experience required for Sponsored (Full-time), Self-Financed, and Part-Time categories of candidates, have been indicated below. 4-year Bachelors’ degree or equivalent in Design, Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design or a Design related field. OR 4-year Professional Diploma in Design of NID or Professional Diploma of CEPT (5-year program) Selection Process: Limited number of candidates are selected for written test and / or interview / portfolio review, if required, based on performance in GATE, grades/marks in the qualifying examination.
