The S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences invites students with consistently excellent academic record (First Division/Class) to apply for admission into the Post B.Sc Integrated Ph.D Programme in Physical Sciences 2012. The students who apply are expected to be motivated to make a career in Research. The programme is fully residential and the students are offered on-campus accommodations and boarding facilities. The Centre charges no fee for the programmes. The programme is done in collaboration with the University of Calcutta.
The Centre is a premier autonomous research centre fully aided by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
In addition, the Centre receives extramural funding from various funding agencies of India and abroad for its different research programmes.
The Centre has extensive collaborative programmes with other premier institutions in India and abroad through bi-lateral exchanges in which the PhD research scholars take active part.
The Centre is fully equipped with the state-of-the-art infrastructure (experimental and computational) including a digital library for advanced research in chosen areas of Physical, Chemical, Mathematical and Biological Sciences.

At present the Centre has nearly 150 students in its Post-M.Sc-PhD programme (PhD) and Post-B.Sc Integrated PhD programme (IPhD).
The Alumni of the Centre have gone on to work in academic and research sectors in India and abroad.
The Centre offers an excellent atmosphere for academic development of students.
The students in the programme have to undertake a prescribed course work for M.Sc and have to abide by the basic rules and regulations.
The students who successfully complete these courses receive an M.Sc Degree from the University of Calcutta .
For continuation in the Integrated Ph.D Programme and the fellowship, a minimum scholastic standard and research output have to be maintained.
The students after a proper screening process will register for PhD degree with the University of Calcutta . The details of the admission test are furnished below:
1. Basic qualification: First Class Division in B.Sc with Physics and Mathematics. Places where class or division are not offered, 60% marks in the aggregate or equivalent grades will be taken as First Class or division.
2. Eligibility for Interview: Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of their ranks in JEST 2012 and/or NGPE 2012 and/or Bose Test 2012. Those who have qualified in the BOSE TEST 2012 held on March 4, 2012 need not apply again. For the exact dates of Interview, please visit our website after 25th April 2012.
3. Monthly Stipend: Students admitted to the programme receive a monthly stipend of Rs 12,000 during the first two years. To maintain the stipend the students need to have a minimum level of scholastic achievements in course work.
The successful completion of the Course Work will lead to an M.Sc Degree by the University of Calcutta, and thereafter, upon meeting the eligibility criteria, the students will be inducted as JRF with a monthly fellowship of Rs.16,000 at the present rate at par with students admitted in the post-M.Sc PhD programme. The programme is strictly residential.
4. Application Deadline: 20th April 2012.
The candidates have to apply on-line. In matters of admission, the decision of the Director of the Centre is final and binding.
